AboutIvanhoe Pictures was formed in late 2013 as a motion picture and television financing and production entity. The company's principal offices are in Los Angeles, Hong Kong, and New York, with affiliate branches in Singapore and London.
Ivanhoe develops, produces, and acquires content for a global audience. With a specific focus on Asia and North America, the company works to bridge production opportunities in both markets.
In March 2017, Ivanhoe merged with Sidney Kimmel Entertainment, the Los Angeles based production-finance company to create SK Global, a new company which produces and finances film and TV projects globally. Backed and co-founded by Sidney Kimmel (Jones New York) and Robert Friedland (Ivanhoe Mines), the venture is overseen by John Penotti, seasoned President and producer who has led companies such as GreeneStreet Films, Ivanhoe Pictures, and Sidney Kimmel Entertainment (SKE). SK Global has retained the labels "Sidney Kimmel Entertainment" and "Ivanhoe Pictures" in their respective markets.
Ivanhoe established a four-year, multi-picture co-financing pact with Fox International Productions (FIP) to produce local language films in India, South Korea, China, Japan, and Taiwan. Several films have been produced under this partnership, including the South Korean thriller THE WAILING by director Na Hong-jin (THE CHASER, THE YELLOW SEA) that has become Fox's all-time second-highest grossing film in Korea.
Ivanhoe has partnered with Blumhouse Productions and Phantom Films in India to produce local-language genre films. The first of these, GHOUL, is planned for release by the end of 2017. Additionally, Ivanhoe and Blumhouse have partnered in South Korea with the distributor Showbox to make six Korean genre movies over the next five years. In China, Ivanhoe partnered with Beijing Hairun Pictures on biopic MY OTHER HOME, starring NBA/CBA star Stephon Marbury.
Ivanhoe Pictures is also producing a slate of its own original content. The company is financing and co-producing first-time novelist Kevin Kwan's comedic best seller, CRAZY RICH ASIANS with Nina Jacobson (THE HUNGER GAMES) producing and Jon Chu (G.I JOE: RETALIATION) directing; the film is currently in post-production. Ivanhoe has also acquired film rights to Ryan Graudin's young adult, action-adventure novel, THE WALLED CITY, set in China's fabled Kowloon City.
